Nancy Apple is a song writer/singer I know that lives in Memphis. She has been dubbed as "The Queen of Twang". She teaches creative song writing at University of Memphis (Memphis State University to us old folks). She writes songs, sings, DJ's at a local Memphis station, and does appearances. She has a number of cd's out.
Her music is a cross between country and folk to me. I am actually NOT a country music fan, but I heard her on tv one morning doing a promotion for a new cd and I fell in love with her style. I listen to her cd's constantly now, but still have not converted to country. My idea of real country music was Hank Williams SR!!! He could write a song, sing it, and all without a million dollars worth of computer equipment or a nine peice band. She falls into that catagory.
I was in Memphis in May 2006 and I went to hear her live and met her. She was awesome. She did a number of my favorites for me, including "Fruit of the Vine". She is very likeable and as friendly as a basket full of speckled pups. Her cd's are available on her website,"www.nancyapple.com", as well as a schedule of her appearances.
NANCY APPLE IS AS COUNTRY AS CASH,
AS ROCKIN' AS CARL,
AND BYGOD AS BOLD AS ELVIS!

Dubbed as the Cadillac Cowgirl, and The Queen of Twang!
This was at a bar in the older part of Memphis, "Kudzu's". It is named after the vine imported from China or somewhere to stop erosion that has taken over the South. It grows a foot a day and covers trees to the point of killing them.
A friend of Nancy's that was home on leave from overseas. She had been gone a year and not able to drink a beer. Apparently it is some kind of new torture there.
Of course there had to be a birthday cake, and the traditional song. I cannot sing a lick so I hummed while this group of singers honored her birthday, and pretended to choke on my Coors Light! Then I had a piece of cake.
Nancy, me, and friend. If you like country you really need to get one of her cd's!
